Gamescom Opening Night Live was disrupted by a stage invader

Tuesday’s big Gamescom kick-off show was briefly disrupted by a stage invader.

Gamescom Opening Night Live host and producer Geoff Keighley was interrupted when the man in question approached him early during the show.

“Bill Clinton wants to play GTA 6,” the stage invader appeared to repeat several times before being removed by security.

This was seemingly in reference to Matan Even, also known as the Bill Clinton Kid, who was arrested after he invaded the stage at last year’s Game Awards (another of Keighley’s productions) during Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Game of the Year acceptance speech.

“That’s just so disappointing,” Keighley said after Tuesday’s stage invasion. “This is such a special night for so many developers, it’s really disappointing to see someone act that way”.

He added: “Really it’s just so sad to me to see something like that happen on a night when we’re here to celebrate games and this community and how much they mean to us.”

While unconfirmed, the individual may have been the same person who earlier this week crashed a German football TV show to talk about Grand Theft Auto – something they also did during a game show two years ago, Dexerto reports.

Keighley later announced that this year’s Game Awards will take place on December 7.

In one of the games industry’s most high-profile data leaks, more than an hour of GTA 6 development footage was published online last September, giving players their first look at the sequel to one of the best-selling games of all time.

The leaked footage included open-world gameplay from an alpha build of GTA 6, and seemingly confirmed a previous report which claimed the game will take place in Vice City and feature a female protagonist.

Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two has forecast a sharp jump in sales during its next fiscal year beginning in April 2024, driven by the release of “several groundbreaking titles”, leading to speculation that GTA 6 could launch during this period.
