From Software is working on ‘multiple new projects’ from different directors
“I think we will be able to show you a different colour of direction for From Software”
Elden Ring developer From Software is working on “multiple new projects”, it’s said.
That’s according to the Japanese studio’s latest recruitment drive, which has it searching for staff to cover, in its words, “a wide range of occupations for multiple new projects.”
Elden Ring director and From president Hidetaka Miyazaki elaborated on the comments in a Japanese 4Gamer interview on Friday, revealing that the in-development games were being helmed by different directors.
“As I have said in several interviews, the fact that we have been able to create a title of the scale of Elden Ring now is largely due to the expansion of staff within the company, but I think that from now on we will be entrusting more projects to them.
“In fact, we are working on several titles directed by people other than myself,” he added. “I think we will be able to show you a different colour of direction for From Software, so please look forward to it.”
In his role as company president, Miyazaki is required to keep tabs on other in-development projects. However, the creator told 4Gamer he liked to keep any interventions to a “minimum”.
“I am essentially a director, so when I come into contact with a title under development, I think about it a lot and want to say something about it.
“But in that case, I’m not the director, I’m not the subject of the vision, and I can’t take responsibility until the very end, so I feel that any unnecessary intervention would have a lot of negative effects on the game and the project.”
In the same interview, Miyazaki claimed he had already started early work on his next game project, which he will direct.
“As director, I’m already working on the next title,” he said. “In the medium to long term, I’d like to work on a more abstract fantasy than the past titles.”
He continued: “In the process of creating action RPG fantasy titles, including Elden Ring, I’ve continued to accumulate ideas and images of fantasy that don’t fit into that format, and I’d like to bring them all together somewhere and get them out.”
In a previous 2018 interview, Miyazaki had stated that since 2016 the studio had been working on ‘three and a half’ games, the half-game being PS4 VR title Déraciné.
One unannounced game in development at From appears to be Armored Core 6, which was reportedly mentioned in a consumer survey earlier this year.
Resetera user Red Liquorice claimed in January that they had received a survey from the Elden Ring and Dark Souls studio, which seemingly revealed the first details on the next unannounced mech combat game.
The alleged unnamed instalment, which would be the first full Armored Core title since 2012, was said to feature a “sci-fi world created by Hidetaka Miyazaki”, “three-dimensional, dynamic action” and a “high degree of freedom in customisation”.
