Fortnite has removed building from its main mode for the new season
The game will also implement new movement mechanics
Fortnite has removed building from its default mode for nine days to mark the start of the new season.
Fortnite’s new season, “Resistance” which brings with it a new battle pass filled with new skins such as Marvel’s Doctor Strange, will remove the crucial mechanic for a short time.
A new loading screen that launched with the season reads: “All Battle, No Building.
“Building has been wiped out. It’s up to the Resistance to get it back. Jump in with your squad and help The Seven uncover the Imagined Orders nefarious plan.”
The Resistance, The Seven and the Imagined Orders are all factions in Fortnite’s multi-season long narrative.
While building will be removed from the default game mode, it won’t be affected in competitive modes, nor will it impact creative mode, which allows players to create their own maps and game types.
Some players are celebrating this change, as recently the game has been criticised for the focus on building and not gunplay, with encounters devolving into a game of who can build the largest structure the fastest.
In order to compensate for the change, players will now have an overshield on top of their health and regular shield.
Movement has also received a large change, with default movement speed in the game being increased, and a new, faster sprint also being implemented.
Mantling has also been added to the game, as well as being able to open doors while moving, using a new shoulder bash.
Epic Games has also announced that from March 20, 2022 until April 3rd, 2022 all proceeds from the game will be donated to humanitarian causes in aid of the war in Ukraine.
The organizations include Direct Relief, United Nations Children’s Fund, United Nations World Food Programme and the UNHCR – The Un Refugee Agency.
