Fortnite Chapter 4 adds Doom Slayer, Augmented Abilities and more
Geralt of Rivia will be available to players later in the season
Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 is now live, bringing with it Augmented Abilities, a new island and even the Doom Slayer.
The latest chapter of the monolithic battle royale kicked off earlier today, following a huge in-game event at the end of Chapter 3.
The new island includes dozens of new locations including a towering castle called The Citadel, nestled in the snowy mountains is Brutal Bastion and across vast farmland is Frenzy Fields.
Players who purchase the new battle pass will be able to play as the Doom Slayer, from Id’s Doom and Doom Eternal. Geralt of Rivia will also be available as an in-game skin later in the season.
Augmented Abilities are the biggest change to the gameplay of Fortnite. Now, at certain intervals during a match, players will be offered the choice of two random Reality Augments.
These augments give the player certain benefits, such as making certain weapons reload faster, or the ability to redeploy for the rest of the game. The longer a player remains in the match, the more augments they can collect.
Fortnite Battle Royale now makes use of Unreal Engine 5’s newest features—such as Nanite, Lumen, Virtual Shadow Maps, and Temporal Super Resolution—via Unreal Engine 5.1.
Several new weapons have also been added to the game, including the Ex-Caliber Rifle. “This powerful, semi-automatic rifle fires a ballistic blade at your enemies… that detonates mere moments later,” according to Epic.
