Former LA Noire developers are reportedly working on a new 1940s game
Update: Video Games Deluxe has claimed the music was for an old project and that it is working exclusively for Rockstar
Original developers of LA Noire are reportedly working on a new project.
The game, which is said to be titled Sowden House, has been seemingly revealed on Instagram by Freyja Garbett, an Australian composer and performer.
Update
Video Games Deluxe has released the following statement regarding the project:
“We are working exclusively on projects for Rockstar. We commissioned some music from a local composer Freyja Garbett for a VR project that we were working on a number of years ago when between projects. It is based on a case from LA Noire that did not make the cut but was more of a tech demo than anything else. We have no idea whether this will ever see the light of day but we decided to finish the score commission to support a local composer.”
“From the creators of L.A. Noire comes Sowden House, a psychological thriller set in 1940s L.A. that will have you questioning your sanity,” Garbett posted alongside a video of music being recorded.
“I never thought I’d be writing for video game but I’m grateful for the opportunity! 🙏 This was the second Video games session recording and it features the ‘jazz band’,” she wrote, seemingly confirming it is a video game.
The title Sowden House refers to a home owned by Dr George Hodel, one of the prime suspects in the Black Dhalia murder case. Hodel’s son later claimed that the victim, Elizabeth Short, was murdered in the house itself.
While the original L.A. Noire studio Team Bondi closed following the release of LA Noire, a studio made up of former team members, Video Games Deluxe was formed. This studio worked on L.A. Noire: The V.R. Case files.
It was claimed by the studio’s LinkedIn page in 2020 that the studio was working on a VR project for Rockstar, publishers of the original LA Noire.
“Having finished the critically well received L.A.Noire: The V.R. Case Files we are now gearing up for a new project, a AAA open world title in VR for Rockstar. 2020 marks our 7th year of working exclusively for Rockstar in Sydney and we are excited to taking on this ground breaking project,” the post read.
