Former BioWare boss’s Nightingale reveals procedural generation system
New trailer reveals “unique gameplay elements” including a card mechanic
Inflexion Games, the studio formed by former BioWare head Aaryn Flynn, has released a new trailer for its debut game Nightingale and revealed “unique gameplay elements” including a card mechanic.
Nightingale is described as a “shared-world survival crafting game set within a rich Victorian gaslamp fantasy setting”.
The game has players visiting mystical portals to explore a series of dangerous realms in search of Nightingale, the “last haven of humanity”.
In the new trailer premiered during Summer Game Fest, Inflexion introduced Realm Cards, which allow players to determine the specific attributes of each new world they conjure.
“Players are able to craft Realm Cards from resources gathered across the realms, imbuing them with unique attributes – including environment type, weather patterns, resources, challenges, and much more,” the developer explained.
“Card attributes are used in conjunction with Nightingale’s sophisticated procedural generation system, allowing players to create a realm based on the conditions set out, increasing the depth and variety of exploration, discovery, and adventure.”
The new trailer also includes a look at survival features, including crafting, estate building, and combat, which players can experience in both solo and co-op play.
