First Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake review published in Famitsu
Japanese magazine praises Dragon Quest remake’s atmosphere and charm
The first Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake review has been published by Japanese magazine Famitsu.
Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is a remake of the 1988 RPG Dragon Quest 3. It will be released for PC and consoles on November 14.
Famitsu’s four reviewers handed the game score of 8, 9, 9, and 9, for a combined 35/40. According to Ryokutya2089, the reviewers praised the remake’s visuals, which they say retain the charm and atmosphere of the original.
According to Famitsu, it will take around 35 hours to complete the remake’s main quest, and 60-70 hours to totally complete the game.
HD-2D is the visual style used by Square Enix for a number of its recent RPGs, including the Octopath Traveler games, Triangle Strategy and its remake of Live A Live.
In VGC’s recent Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake preview, we wrote: “While this lacks the rabid fanfare (on our shores, at least) that would accompany a Chrono Trigger remake, Square seems to have pulled out all the stops for this long anticipated celebration.
“Like the best remakes, Dragon Quest 3 looks to masterfully tow the line between capturing the classic gaming feel of yore while still adding all the modern niceties that players have grown accustomed to.”
