Final Fantasy VII Remake E3 trailer and release date revealed
PS4 exclusive set for March 2020
Final Fantasy VII Remake will release for PS4 on March 3, 2020, Square Enix has announced.
The release date was shared during an E3 concert in Los Angeles on Sunday, where the company also premiered a new trailer.
There was no clarification in Sunday’s announcements on the game’s proposed episodic release.
In 2015 Square Enix said Final Fantasy VII Remake would be “told across a multi-part series, with each entry providing its own unique experience.”
Final Fantasy VII Remake was announced for PS4 at E3 2015 and little was heard about the game until it re-emerged last week.
In June 2018 director Tetsuya Nomura reassured fans that the game was still in development. “It’s not just in the early concept stages,” he said. “We are actually in development.”
Nomura pointed to Kingdom Hears III, which he also directed and eventually released in January 2019, as the reason for Remake’s absence from the spotlight.
Another factor in the game’s lengthy blackout may have been a shift in development strategy, with external studio CyberConnect 2 reportedto have originally been heavily involved in Remake, before eventually seeing its duties absorbed internally by Square Enix.
