Final Fantasy creator’s Fantasian is seemingly coming to Steam

Fantasian, the Apple Arcade game written and produced by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, appears to be coming to Steam.

As spotted by Twitter user Knoebel, an apparent listing for the game has appeared in Steam’s database (as can be seeon on SteamDB).

Assuming the listing is legitimate, it means the end of the game’s exclusivity period on Apple Arcade.

Part 1 of Fantasian was released on Apple Arcade on April 2, 2021, while Part 2 was released on August 13, suggesting the game’s exclusivity period was likely two years.

Developed by Sakaguchi’s studio Mistwalker, Fantasian sees the Final Fantasy creator returning to traditional turn-based RPG gameplay for the first time since 2007’s Lost Odyssey on Xbox 360.

The game also features a new soundtrack by legendary Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu.

Its most unique feature, however, is its art style – the game’s environments are all real-life dioramas created by Japanese artists who have worked on ‘tokusatsu’ (special effects) films including the Godzilla movies, Attack on Titan and Ultraman.

These dioramas were then scanned and turned into in-game environments, resulting in realistic backgrounds.

Sakaguchi said back in February that he wanted to bring Fantasian to PC eventually, and also potentially work on a sequel.

“We have received many requests to release the game on PC too, and there have also been requests for a sequel”, Sakaguchi explained during the Magic 2023 festival in Monaco.

“So we would like to continue working as hard as possible to meet their expectations.”
