Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will release in ‘early 2024’ on two discs

Square Enix has released a new Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth trailer, which is viewable below.

The trailer, which premiered during Summer Game Fest‘s live kick-off show on Thursday, sees Cloud, Aerith and the rest of the party from the end of Final Fantasy 7 Remake exploring the walls beyond Midgar.

It includes several combat encounters and full CG cutscenes, and closes by confirming that the PS5 game will be released in “early 2024” on two discs.

Unlike Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which was released for PS4 in 2020 before making its way to PS5 and PC the following year, Rebirth won’t be available for Sony’s last-gen console.

The second entry in the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy was announced in June 2022. At the time, producer Yoshinori Kitase said Rebirth would be “released next winter”, meaning in late 2023 or early 2024.

In a Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth update last week, Kitase said: “Development is progressing smoothly and according to plan, We are currently working on nailing down a release date for the game.”

Square Enix also said players won’t need to have experienced Final Fantasy 7 Remake in order to enjoy Rebirth.

“We have made preparations so that players who did not get a chance to play the first game can fully enjoy Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth,” co-director Motomu Toriyama said.
