Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director says it isn’t getting DLC, so Part 3 can be released sooner
“Fans want to see the third part of the series as quickly as possible”
The director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth says it won’t be getting major story DLC, because the focus is on finishing Part 3.
Following the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake in 2020, an upgraded PS5 version called Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade was released which included a new DLC expansion called Episode Intermission.
In an interview with the Daily Star, Naoki Hamaguchi explained that while he was aware fans of the series have been asking for similar story DLC for Rebirth, it won’t be happening because he feels they would rather have Part 3 sooner.
“We definitely do hear the desire from fans, the voices out there that want that kind of thing,” he explained.
“I understand it completely, but I think, from my perspective, what the fans really want to see the most is not necessarily DLC. They want to see the third part of the series as quickly as possible.
“So that’s why we’ve decided not to focus the development resources on creating additional extra episodes for DLC at the moment. We really are putting all our efforts into getting the third game out as quickly as we can. So for the moment, that’s where we’re focusing our time.”
Earlier this year, Hamaguchi said he was confident the third part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy will be one of the greatest video games ever made.
VGC’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth review calls it “an excellent RPG with some of the best characters in the gaming canon”.
