Final Fantasy 7 is getting a battle royale prequel
The First Soldier will release for iOS and Android later this year
Square Enix has announced a battle royale spin-off for Final Fantasy 7, called The First Soldier.
Set for release on iOS and Android later this year, the last-person-standing multiplayer game is set in Midgar 30 years before the events of the original Final Fantasy 7.
As a SOLDIER candidate, players must make use of their abilities in “a battle for survival”. Players use various guns and powers in a setup that doesn’t look dissimilar to other popular battle royale games.
“Join the fray, lay waste to your foes, and climb the ranks,” the trailer says.
Square Enix announced a second mobile game on Thursday called Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis.
Ever Crisis is a chapter-structured single-player game covering the whole of the FFVII timeline – including the events of the original game and the FFVII compilation titles.
Earlier on Thursday Square Enix announced Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, a PlayStation 5 update of last year’s RPG.
Set for release on June 10, Intergrade will feature improved visuals, significantly faster loading times, a Photo Mode, haptic feedback and a new episode featuring character Yuffie.
Graphics improvements include higher resolution textures, fog effects and improved lighting. Players will be able to choose between two graphics modes, prioritising either 4K resolution or 60fps.
PS4 owners will be able to upgrade to the PS5 game for free and transfer saves from the last-gen version, Square Enix announced during a State of Play live stream on Thursday.
