Final Fantasy 16’s The Rising Tide expansion has been dated
The game’s second story DLC launches in mid-April
Square Enix has dated Final Fantasy 16’s The Rising Tide expansion.
Priced at $19.99, the game’s second story DLC will be released on April 18, 2024.
The release date was announced on Friday at the end of a PAX East panel covering the upcoming expansion, which can be rewatched in full below.
“An unmarked letter arrives at the hideaway containing a request most curious: the Dominant of Leviathan, long lost Eikon of Water, is in need of rescue,” reads the description accompanying a new trailer, which is viewable above.
“To heed this call, Clive and his companions must journey to Mysidia—a hidden land under a blue sky—where they will uncover the tragic history of a forgotten people.”
The game’s first story DLC, Echoes of the Fallen, was released in December priced at $9.99 / £7.99.
Players can purchase the Final Fantasy 16 Expansion Pass, which includes access to both DLC packs, for $24.99 / £19.99.
Producer Naoki Yoshida recently said it’s unlikely there will be more Final Fantasy 16 DLC after the two announced expansions, although he wouldn’t rule it out entirely.
“My honest answer is, ‘I don’t know at the moment,’ but at the same time, the possibility isn’t entirely zero,” he told Game Informer. “I don’t want to bar out any real possibilities at this time. The reason being is that we did spend a lot of effort […] and time creating this game […] and we put a lot of cutting edge technology into this game.
“And because of that, we were able to gain a lot of experience, a lot of learnings, that we can possibly apply to our next project or title. So, my honest feeling is that the team does want to take on a new challenge and move on to a different project – maybe it’s a completely new game, perhaps in a completely new form of entertainment.
“I feel like ultimately, that might be the best route for not just the players, but for us as well, too. But again, to reiterate, the possibility of more DLC content for Final Fantasy XVI is not zero.”
