Final Fantasy 16 copies are reportedly in the wild a week ahead of release
The game isn’t due to come out until June 22
Physical copies of Final Fantasy 16 are reportedly in the wild more than a week before its official release, according to several social media users who’ve begun posting images and details of the game.
While retail leaks of modern games are common due to the time required to ship a game to a retail location, the fact the game is already in players’ hands a week early means social media will soon likely be heavily populated with spoilers.
So far the spoilers, which we won’t link to here, are mainly from early on in the game. Naturally, however, as players spend more time with it, spoilers from later in the game will start to emerge.
Final Fantasy 16 will be released on PlayStation 5 on June 22. A playable demo for the game is now available to download.
In a Final Fantasy 16 preview published last month, we said the game has the potential to be one of the best titles in the series, which launched in 1987 and had shipped over 173 million copies as of March 2022.
“Final Fantasy 16 has the potential to stake a claim as a defining RPG of the early generation,” we wrote. “With production values that are off the charts and music that will knock you off your feet, the game left an incredibly strong impression.”
Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida recently said he’d like to see a PC version of the game released “eventually”. The game is a timed PS5 exclusive, with the latest trailer saying it won’t be released on any other systems before December 31, 2023.
He also revealed that Square Enix has discussed the possibility of dropping numbers from Final Fantasy game titles.
