FIFA 23 Hero Pack mistake sees EA wipe millions of coins off virtual transfer market

A FIFA 23 Hero Pack which was mistakenly released by EA has seen players have millions of coins worth of in-game currency wiped from FIFA 23 Ultimate Team.

The pack, which was briefly available from 6 PM BST last night, offered players a tradeable FUT Hero item in FIFA 23, some of which are worth millions of coins, for 25,000 coins.

While EA corrected the mistake around 25 minutes after releasing the pack, this didn’t stop millions of coins in value from being wiped from FIFA Ultimate Team as players sold their FUT Hero items in a panic, due to the huge influx of supply.

FUT Hero items are extremely rare players than can be found in certain packs in Ultimate Team. FUT Hero cards are given to players who’ve made a significant contribution to a club or have become a cult favourite, such as former Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-Sung.

Due to the item’s incredibly rarity, they are often extremely expensive on FIFA 23 Ultimate Team’s virtual transfer market, with some items such as Yaya Toure selling for 1.9 million FUT coins, which a prominent third-party coin-selling website values at just under £400.

However, EA mistakenly released this pack, thus flooding the market with a huge supply of the items, and saw all of the prices drop rapidly, with some losing as much as 1 million FUT coins in value, around £200 when purchased from a third party.

EA has yet to comment on the mistake. However, the damage on the market is permanent. Most, if not all players have lost value, and while the market has recovered somewhat following the removal of the pack and the subsequent lack of supply of FUT Hero items, the loss of coins is irreversible.

Players who managed to purchase the pack may be in even more luck, however, as the pack was advertised as untradeable (meaning the item couldn’t be sold on the transfer market), in past instances when EA has sold a pack with the wrong description, they typically compensate players with the original pack, meaning some players may receive two FUT Hero cards for as little as 25,000 coins.
