Electronic Arts has confirmed that the Switch version of FIFA 23 won’t offer any of the new gameplay features or modes included in other editions of the game.

Once again, this year’s FIFA release for Switch will be a ‘Legacy Edition’, meaning it has the same gameplay features and modes from FIFA 22.

EA announced today that FIFA 23 will be released on September 30, 2022 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Stadia, PS4 and Xbox One.

It will feature cross-play for every 1v1 mode in the game, an updated animation system, a “new risk versus reward shooting mechanic” and a revamp of the way free kicks, penalties and corners are taken, among other features.

FIFA Ultimate Team mode will feature a redesigned chemistry system and a new mode called FUT Moments, which EA said is “scenario-based”.

FIFA 23 Legacy Edition, which will be released on the same date for Switch, won’t include these new features or enhancements.

It will include updated kits, clubs and squads from some of the world’s top leagues, plus the addition of top women’s club teams and some new stadiums.

The game’s Nintendo eShop description also promises “an updated visual identity and a refreshed broadcast overlay package”.

However, “FIFA 23 Legacy Edition will feature the same gameplay features and modes from FIFA 22 Legacy Edition without any new development or significant enhancements.”
