Fans think Switch 2’s ‘leaked Joy-Cons’ could hide a new feature
Switch 2’s controllers could have mouse-like support, it’s claimed
Images claiming to show the Joy-Con controllers for Nintendo’s unannounced Switch 2 console could be hinting at a new feature, it’s claimed.
At the weekend, images began circulating online claiming to show Switch 2’s Joy-Cons, allegedly originating from a factory in China that is currently producing Nintendo’s next console.
If authentic, the images corroborate previous claims that the Switch 2 controllers will be larger than their predecessors and feature a magnetic connection.
However, social media users believe the images could be hiding another feature. In the side-on image of the alleged Switch 2 Joy-Con, it appears that the controller could include an optical sensor similar to a PC mouse.
This has led some to speculate that the Switch 2 Joy-Cons could be useable as mouse-like controllers, similar to Lenovo’s Legion Go handheld.
The speculation is partly fuelled by last year’s alleged Switch 2 shipping data, which specifically mentioned “mouse” parts.
Nintendo has yet to officially reveal its Switch successor, but the company has confirmed plans to do so during its current fiscal year, which ends in March 2025.
Ahead of Nintendo’s official reveal, there have been plenty of alleged leaks revealing supposed details about the new console. The first alleged images of Nintendo’s Switch successor appeared online in September, showing a design that’s not too dissimilar from the company’s current-gen console.
Then, last week, alleged images of Switch 2’s internal hardware components appeared on Reddit. If accurate, the images appear to confirm previous hardware spec rumors suggesting that the new console will again be powered by Nvidia hardware.
