Epic Games store introduces cloud saves for selected games
Feature will be coming to additional titles “soon”
The Epic Games store’s cloud saves feature has been introduced for a couple of titles ahead of its wider rollout in the near future.
An Epic representative confirmed the first two titles to support the feature are Moonlighter and This War of Mine, both of which are currently free to download as part of the store’s weekly free game promotion.
“Moonlighter and This War of Mine support cloud saves,” they posted on Reddit. “Support for cloud saves will be coming to additional games soon.”
Epic CEO Tim Sweeney provided an update on Twitter too. “Cloud saves are enabled for a couple of new games right now,” he said. “We have a bit more work to do before rolling it out more widely.”
Sweeney also said the process of adding cloud saves to titles is a manual one for the Epic Games store team and “usually doesn’t require developers to update their games”.
Automatic cloud saves were previously scheduled to launch in May but they were delayed along with several other features.
The Epic Games store feature roadmap provides an overview of what’s currently being worked on or planned, as well as target launch dates.
For example, headline additions targeted for release in the next 4-6 months include wishlists, mod support and a user review system, although Epic says all features and timings are subject to change.
Alan Wake and For Honor will be the next free titles available from the Epic Games store, beginning on Friday August 2.
