Epic Games acquires $95 million shopping mall for its new headquarters

Epic Games has acquired the Cary Towne Center shopping mall in North Carolina, which it will transform into its new headquarters.

In an official announcement, the Fortnite maker said it plans to turn the 980,000-square-foot and 87-acre site into its new campus by 2024.

Unreal Engine firm Epic has been based in Cary for over 20 years. The Cary Towne Center mall, which is about a 10-minute drive from the company’s existing HQ, was reportedly acquired for $95 million.

Development of the new site will commence later this year and will include the construction of both office buildings and recreational spaces.

According to the announcement, Epic is working with Cary town officials to explore ways “some of this property might be used by the community”.

“We look forward to continuing to work closely and collaboratively with the Epic team as they conceptualize their new campus, and we’re honored to partner with them on this exciting new development,” said Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht.

The Epic Games Store is currently running its Holiday Sale, featuring discounts of up to 75% on a range of titles, until January 7.
