Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake gameplay updates have reportedly leaked
Stamina, sneaking, blocking, archery and more reportedly being reworked for Oblivion remake
Gameplay improvements featured in the anticipated but unannounced remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion have reportedly leaked.
In July 2023, a Reddit user said to be a former Virtuos employee claimed that the studio was working on a remake of Oblivion.
And later that year, a leaked court document revealed a roadmap of planned Bethesda games from 2020, which included an Oblivion remaster.
According to a new MP1ST report, the website of a former Virtuos employee has now detailed a number of updated gameplay features present in the game.
In addition to being “fully remade” with Unreal Engine 5, the updated title is said to rework six gameplay systems: stamina, sneaking, blocking, archery, hit reaction and HUD.
Improvements to the blocking system have reportedly been inspired by Souls-like games, while sneak icons are now highlighted in the new system.
“The stamina system was modified to be less frustrating for the player, making the knockdown that occurs when stamina is depleted more difficult to activate through changes in calculation methods,” according to the report.
“The HUD was changed to make it easier to understand and more aesthetically appealing to young players. Hit reactions were also added to improve the response to damage inflicted on the player and NPCs. Finally, Archery was improved to make it more playable and modern in both third and first-person viewpoints.”
According to well informed industry insider Nate the Hate, Oblivion is currently slated to be released in June 2025.
Microsoft will hold its next Developer Direct live stream on January 23, when it could confirm planned support for Switch 2.
