Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree update makes the expansion easier
The patch addresses complaints from some players about the DLC’s difficulty
From Software has released an Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree patch designed to make the game easier.
The expansion includes a new levelling system based on Scadutree fragments, in-game items found around the world that are used to increase a character’s abilities to deal and negate damage.
Following complaints from some members of the community that the DLC is too difficult, calibration update 1.12.2 revises the attack and damage negation curve scaling of the Scadutree Blessing.
Attack and damage negation abilities have been raised for the first half of Blessing enhancements, the second half is now more gradual, and the final level of Blessing enhancements has also been slightly increased.

About graphics settings (PC version only)
We have confirmed a bug where the raytracing settings are automatically enabled if you have previously loaded saved data from previous game versions.
If your framerate is unstable, please check in the ‘SYSTEM’ > ‘Graphics Settings’ > ‘Raytracing Quality’ settings from the title menu or in-game menu to check if it has been unintentionally set to ‘ON’. Once set to ‘OFF’, Ray Tracing will no longer be automatically enabled.
Other balance adjustments as well as bug fixes are also planned for a future patch.
While From Software games are renowned for their difficulty, some players claim Shadow of the Erdtree is significantly harder than the main game, a complaint which has contributed to mixed user reviews.
Shadow of the Erdtree features incredibly tough bosses, as described in VGC’s review of the DLC, but some players claim the new levelling system is the reason certain Elden Ring veterans are finding the expansion difficult.
While the traditional Rune (in-game experience points) system is still in place, the new levelling system based on in-game items found around the world is far more relevant to the difficulty of Shadow of the Erdtree.
This is how balancing is handled in the DLC, so that even characters that are extremely over levelled will find it challenging if they’ve not collected enough Scadutree fragments.
