Elden Ring producer says its expansion will be ‘a little while yet’ and compares it to Bloodborne

Elden Ring producer Yasuhiro Kitao has provided an update on the game’s upcoming expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree.

Speaking to Japanese publication Game Watch, the From Software producer said development was progressing well, but suggested that fans shouldn’t expect a release in the near future.

“It’ll be a little while yet, but progress is going well,” he said in comments translated by PCGamesN. “Like Bloodborne, it has new battles and new characters.”

From Software’s parent company, Kadokawa, also claimed this month that development of the DLC was “proceeding smoothly”.

Shadow of the Erdtree was announced in February, although further details about the expansion weren’t confirmed.

Elden Ring was released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC in February 2022 and was one of the year’s best-selling games.

Just days before the first anniversary of its release, publisher Bandai Namco claimed the game had sold 20 million copies.

Producer Kitao told Game Watch that From Software was “surprised that so many people played the game”, adding: “There are no words other than gratitude. I’m really grateful.”

Elden Ring received an update last December which opened up several Colosseums that had been dotted around the map since release, allowing for PvP battles including duels, free-for-alls and team fights.

Ray tracing support for the game on PC and new-gen consoles was introduced via an update in March.
