Elden Ring has sold 12 million copies, Bandai Namco claims

Elden Ring has sold 12 million units in its first couple of weeks on sale, Bandai Namco has claimed.

FromSoftware‘s critically acclaimed epic was released on February 25, and according to Bandai Namco‘s figures the game had passed 12 million sales by March 14.

This number is based on sales figures of the digital version, and ‘distribution figures’ of the physical version of the game.

In a statement, the game’s director and co-writer, Hidetaka Miyazaki, expressed his thanks to players who had already purchased the game.

“It’s astonishing to see just how many people have been playing Elden Ring,” Miyazaki said. “I’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks on behalf of the entire development team.

“Elden Ring is based on a mythological story written by George R. R. Martin. We hope players enjoy a high level of freedom when adventuring through its vast world, exploring its many secrets and facing up to its many threats.

“Thank you for your continued support.”

Bandai Namco president and CEO Yasuo Miyakawa added: “Much effort was placed into creating Elden Ring so that we could exceed the expectations of our fans worldwide.

“In like manner, we will continue our efforts in expanding the brand beyond the game itself, and into everyone’s daily life.”

Market research firm NPD Group said last week that Elden Ring had made a blockbuster start at US retail, and was already the country’s best-selling game of 2022.

Elden Ring was also Europe’s biggest new games IP launch since 2016’s The Division, according to GSD sales data published on GamesIndustry.biz.

Its UK release was the biggest launch for a game other than FIFA or Call of Duty since Rockstar‘s Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018.

And it’s Steam‘s sixth biggest game ever in terms of concurrent players, with a peak of over 950,000 – more than seven times that of Dark Souls III.
