Eidos Montreal’s Guardians of the Galaxy is a single-player story-driven game
Cross-gen console and PC game will be released in October 2021
Square Enix has announced a new Guardian of the Galaxy game from developer Eidos Montreal.
Marvel’s Guardian of the Galaxy’s reveal opened the publisher’s Square Enix Presents software showcase on Sunday.
The single-player, story-driven, third-person action adventure title will be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC on October 26, 2021.
It sees players take on the role of Star-Lord, and wielding his Elemental Blasters as well as the unique powers of his crewmates.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is being worked on in collaboration with Marvel Entertainment, Square Enix said, who will provide “an original and authentic experience” inspired by over 50 years of Guardians of the Galaxy lore.
“Influenced by the comics, this unique spin on the Guardians of the Galaxy will take players on a riotous journey across the stars as Peter Quill and the Guardians unintentionally become the galaxy’s first and last line of defense,” the publisher said.
Square Enix provided a 10-minute first look at gameplay in the video above.
“Fire up Star-Lord’s jet boots for a wild ride across the cosmos in this third-person action-adventure game, a fresh take on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy,” reads the blurb accompanying the reveal trailer above.
“With the unpredictable Guardians at your side, blast your way from one explosive situation to another, with original and iconic Marvel characters caught in a struggle for the fate of the universe. You got this. Probably.”
Eidos Montreal, creative collaborator Bill Rosemann (VP, creative at Marvel Games) and comic book artist Dan Abnett also provided an inside look at the game’s development in the video below.
