An online concert to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Earthbound will be held in June.

The concert, which will be titled The Music of Mother, will take place on Saturday June 22 at 8pm Japan time (9am ET / 12pm BST).

The show will consist of three parts. The first part, Mother Remix, will consist of a remix of songs from Mother and Mother 2, renamed in the west as Earthbound Beginnings and Earthbound.

The Mother Remix section will be performed by legendary Nintendo composer Hirokazu ‘Hip’ Tanaka, who co-composed the music for both games, as well as such titles as Super Mario Land and Metroid.

This will be followed by a conversation between Tanaka and Mother seriues composer Keiichi Suzuki. This section will be Japanese-only with no English dub or subtitles available.

Finally, the third part will be titled The Music of Mother and will be led by Suzuki and a band assembled by him, named the Tonzura Mother Band.

The concert will be a paid event, and international viewers can purchase a streaming ticket for ¥3,000 ($19).

“We’ve always wanted to have a Mother music event, and the time has finally come,” the show description reads.

“We’re holding an exclusive live streaming event with a focus on the music of Mother and Mother 2. Keiichi Suzuki and a special band he has assembled will be performing live music for us.

“Hirokazu Tanaka will be joining Keiichi Suzuki, as they had worked together on the soundtracks for Mother and Mother 2. He’s planning on performing a remix of music from the Mother series.

“You can also watch a round table discussion between the two musicians and the Mother series creator himself, Shigesato Itoi. We can’t wait to see what kind of stories come up.”

Earthbound Beginnings and Earthbound are both available to play on Nintendo Switch Online, via its NES and SNES game libraries.

However, the third game in the trilogy, GBA title Mother 3, was never given an official western release and remains a Japan-only RPG. Mother 3 was added to the GBA library on Switch Online in Japan in February, but there’s still no sign of an English localisation.
