EA Sports FC 24 topped European game sales ahead of Starfield in September
While PS5 continued to dominate console sales
EA Sports FC 24 was Europe’s best-selling game in September ahead of fellow new release Starfield.
Sales of EA’s new football brand, which launched in the last third of the month, were down 10% compared with last year’s particularly strong FIFA 23 launch.
That’s according to GSD data published on GamesIndustry.biz, which covers physical game sales from major European markets and digital sales from most leading publishers, excluding Nintendo and 505 Games.
Starfield, which was released in early September and was also available on Game Pass at launch, was last month’s second best-selling title.
The Xbox Series X/S and PC release failed to topple Forza Horizon 5 as Microsoft‘s biggest game launch this generation, although the racing title was also released for Xbox One, meaning it had a significantly larger potential userbase.
New releases took the next three places on the monthly chart, with NBA 2K24 at No.3, The Crew Motorfest at No.4, and Mortal Kombat 1 at No.5. Of these titles, only The Crew Motorfest outperformed its predecessor’s launch sales.
On the hardware front, PS5 continued to dominate sales across European markets tracked by GSD, which exclude the UK and Germany.
Sales of Sony‘s console were up 175% over the same period last year, when there were still significant stock shortages.
Nintendo Switch sales were down 28% compared with last September, while Xbox Series X/S sales were down 35%.
Starfield was the best-selling game in the US in September, ahead of Mortal Kombat 1 and EA Sports FC 24, market research firm Circana reported on Wednesday.
