EA Sports FC 25 adds 5v5 Rush mode as Volta is removed

EA has announced Rush, a new 5v5 mode coming to EA Sports FC 25.

Rush mode features teams of five players, four human-controlled and one AI goalkeeper. Playable across Ultimate Team, Clubs, and Kick-Off modes, it sees players compete on a shorter pitch, with the middle third of the pitch removed, making for fast-paced gameplay.

If a player commits a foul, they will be sent off with a blue card, which bans them from re-entering the field of play for 60 seconds. Penalties are 1v1 battles with the goalkeeper rather than traditional spot kicks.

In Manager Career, Rush will see players take control of Youth Academy development throughout the season with new playable 5v5 tournaments. Matches begin with the ball being launched into the middle of the pitch, resulting in opposing players sprinting towards it to win the ball.

Rush mode will replace Volta, a small-sided mode that has been in the last few EA football games. According to EA, this follows community feedback about the mode, which has now been entirely replaced.

The new mode uses the same movement and mechanics from the traditional 11v11 game, rather than the custom mechanics of Volta, which turned many players away from the mode.

EA has also detailed new changes coming to Ultimate Team, including the ability to store duplicate items.

The EA Sports FC 25 release date is September 27, 2024. Players who purchase the Ultimate edition will receive seven days of early access, beginning on September 20.
