E3 opens industry registration and claims ‘AAA companies’ will appear

E3 2023’s organiser has provided an update on this year’s revamped show and claimed that “AAA companies” have committed to exhibiting.

E3 2023 – the flagship industry event’s first physical show in four years – will run from Tuesday, June 13 and has been taken over from the Entertainment Software Association by ReedPop, the media and events company behind PAX, EGX and Star Wars Celebration.

So far, Ubisoft is the only major publisher to publicly commit to the physical E3 2023 show, while Nintendo has confirmed it will be skipping this year’s event.

However, in an update published on Thursday, ReedPop claimed that unnamed “AAA companies, in addition to indie darlings and tech and hardware firms” have committed to “making their return” to the LA Convention Center.

“The full roster of exhibitors will be announced in the leadup to the expo, providing participating companies the opportunity to make their own individual announcements beforehand,” it said in a statement.

Registration for E3 2023 industry passes opens today, following media applications which began last month. Working members of the gaming industry can apply for industry passes here. ReedPop claims that 1,350 members of the media and content creators have already applied.

Under the revamped format, the first two days of E3 2023 (June 13-14) will be reserved exclusively for business. The third day (June 15) will welcome both business and consumer visitors, while the final day (June 16) will be dedicated to consumers.

Industry visitors will have access to both the LACC’s West and South halls, while on public days, consumer visitors will have access to the South hall only.

On Thursday ReedPop revealed more details on how it hopes to improve the E3 experience for business visitors, which it says was guided by feedback from game developers.

These changes include meeting rooms available to reserve on-site, a full-service bar, and ‘Meet the Investors’ and ‘Meet the Brands’ events designed to bring together developers and publishers with merchandise businesses, and investors.

ReedPop says E3 2023’s “Digital Week” kicks off on Sunday, June 11, with outside digital events including The PC Gaming Show, Future Games Show, Guerilla Collective, and Black Voices in Gaming falling under this banner.

Earlier this week, Microsoft also confirmed its own digital event for June 11. According to an earlier IGN report, the Xbox firm could also partner with E3’s organiser for a separate, dedicated event away from the LACC, similar to how at previous E3s, it was located at the nearby Microsoft Theater.

Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest show is due to take place the week before E3.

Finally, Paragon – who worked on the E3 2021 live stream – has been announced as the official E3 2023 streaming partner. Additionally, event experience platform MeetToMatch will serve as E3’s largest partner and sponsor.

“We know it’s been a long wait, and we are proud to share more details about content coming to E3 with plenty more to come,” said ReedPop VP of Gaming Kyle Marsden-Kish. “ReedPop is excited to be bringing back a remastered E3 as the cultural touchstone for the game industry and its fans.”

As well as running high-profile events in the US and Europe, ReedPop is the owner of Gamer Network, which runs websites such as Eurogamer, GamesIndustry.biz, VG247 and Rock Paper Shotgun, and is the network partner of VGC.
