Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake studio says it regrets announcing the game so early

The studio behind the upcoming Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake says it regrets announcing it so early.

The game appeared during Tuesday’s Nintendo Direct presentation, showing gameplay footage for the first time and revealing a November 14 release date.

However, the game was initially announced back in May 2021 as one of five in-development Dragon Quest titles confirmed at the same time.

Nothing was seen of the game after this, leading some to wonder if it was still in development, until a teaser finally appeared last month to say more news was coming.

Now the game’s development studio, known informally as Team Asano, has taken to Announce that it may have jumped the gun too early with its announcement.

On the official X account of its previous game, Bravely Default II, the studio noted that the game’s development had been straightforward but suggested it should have waited before announcing that it was in development.

“We’ve been told that too much time has passed since we announced the start of development, but this isn’t unusual seeing as all of our titles have taken 3-4 years to develop,” it said (as translated by Automaton ).

“However, the (initial) announcement was too early compared to others (we are reflecting on this). So, thank you very much for waiting.”

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake will be released on November 14 for Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC (via Steam and Microsoft Store).

Square Enix also announced on Tuesday that an HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest 1 & 2 is also in development, and will be released in 2025.

Chronologically, Dragon Quest 3 comes first in the Erdrick trilogy, followed by Dragon Quest 1 and Dragon Quest 2.
