Double Fine’s former indies boss joins PlayStation

Double Fine’s former business development VP Greg Rice has joined PlayStation.

Rice announced via Twitter on Wednesday that he will be taking on the role of Global Head of Indie Accounts at Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Rice previously oversaw Double Fine’s publishing initiative Double Fine Presents, which saw the Psychonauts firm mentor a roster of indie games including Knights and Bikes, Gang Beats and Everything.

Rice departed Double Fine in November, just a few months after the company was acquired by Xbox Game Studios.

Double Fine’s CEO, Tim Schafer had said he was unsure if the developer would continue to publish indie games following its acquisition by Microsoft.

“Very excited to announce I’m joining the amazing team at Sony Interactive Entertainment as the Global Head of Indie Accounts,” Rice wrote on Twitter.

“I’ll be managing all independent developer and publisher accounts and building new initiatives to support indies big and small from all over the world.”

Rice will be working alongside Sony’s former Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida, who is now leading a new initiative nurturing external indie developers.

The new PlayStation Worldwide Studios boss, Hermen Hulst said in an interview published this week that the platform holder will keep making “big, spectacular” games.
