Disney Speedstorm‘s next season pass won’t allow players to purchase it using in-game currency, in a break from previous season passes.

In an update outlining the game’s next season, developer Gameloft announced that Golden Passes, (the game’s season pass) will no longer be purchasable with Tokens (the game’s free in-game currency), only as a direct purchase.

The Golden Pass will still have a free tier and a premium tier, however where in the previous season players could earn their way to the premium tier via gameplay, the premium tier will now only be available as a direct purchase for $9.99/€9.99.

A bundle for $19.99/€19.99 which allows players to skip tiers, will also be offered.

Disney Speedstorm players aren’t happy with the change, with many taking to social media to vent their frustration at the change.

“I was saving my tokens for the new season pass 🙁 It’s so frustrating.” wrote one fan on Reddit.

“As a Founder who bought the game in Early Access, I am dumbfounded… what exactly have I paid for? We were told at the beginning of the game that Tokens can be used to purchase Golden Passes. Why have they revoked that?” wrote another.

Season 7 of Disney Speedstorm is set to start on April 17.

The full changes to the game’s season structure as outlined in the update are:

  • Seasons will now be split into 2 parts of approximately 1 month.
  • Each part will contain 4-5 Season Tour Chapters.
  • Each part will have a free Golden Pass track which means there’s now 100 tiers of rewards to earn for free.
  • Tiers will now require 1000 XP to complete, a 50% drop, making rewards quicker to earn.
  • Each part will have a premium Golden Pass for $9.99/€9.99 or equivalent in local currency.
  • Each part will have a premium Golden Pass Bundle for $19.99/€19.99 or equivalent in local currency that includes 15 tier skips.
  • Golden Passes will no longer be purchasable with Tokens, only as a direct purchase.
  • Golden Pass Credits can still be used to unlock the premium Golden Pass.
