Digital Xbox 360 games are being discounted ahead of upcoming store closure
The console’s online marketplace will be shut in July
Digital Xbox 360 games are being discounted ahead of the closure of the console’s online marketplace this summer.
Although users will still be able to redownload their previous purchases for the foreseeable future, after July 29, 2024, it will no longer be possible to buy any more games or DLC from the Xbox 360 Marketplace.
While many of these games will still be playable via other means, around 220 of them will essentially disappear forever, VGC analysis has showed.
After it was announced that the store would be closing, Microsoft’s head of gaming said he’d like to find ways to ensure that hundreds of titles aren’t lost when the Xbox 360’s digital store closes.
Microsoft has now launched the first of three planned waves of discounts on digital Xbox 360 games. 66 titles have seen their prices reduced until the marketplace’s closure, 18 of which are on the aforementioned list of 220 games.
“To celebrate the legacy of Xbox 360, we’re working with our amazing publishing partners to bring you as many price reductions from our online store or from the Xbox 360 Store on the console,” Microsoft said.
“We’ll be updating this list with more games on June 18, 2024, and on July 16, 2024, bringing you as many repriced games as possible before the end of July. These price reductions will remain in place for each game through the 360 store closing on July 29, 2024.”
