Diablo and Overwatch animated shows are on the way, CV suggests
LinkedIn profile of Activision’s TV and film studio boss lists unannounced projects
Activision Blizzard is planning to release animated series based on the Diablo and Overwatch properties.
That’s according to the LinkedIn profile of Nick van Dyk, the former Walt Disney Company executive who’s currently president of Activision Blizzard Studios.
The LA-based film and television studio was established in 2015 to create original content based on Activision’s popular franchises.
While it’s unclear when van Dyk’s LinkedIn profile was last updated, the experience section of his online résumé currently includes the following projects:
- Executive producer of Diablo, a TV adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment’s IP, rendered in anime style. The show is currently in pre-production for distribution worldwide through Netflix.
- With my creative partner, developed and sold an animated series based Blizzard’s Overwatch franchise.
van Dyk served as executive producer on Activision Blizzard Studios’ first release, the Netflix animated show Skylanders Academy, which ran for three seasons.
He also “authored development strategy for the Call of Duty cinematic and television universe” which was originally expected to produce a film based on the shooter series for release in 2018 or 2019.
A Call of Duty movie is currently on hold while Activision prioritises other projects, according to film director Stefano Sollima (Sicario: Day of Soldado), who wrote a script for the project with Joker writer Scott Silver.
New game entries in the Diablo and Overwatch series were announced at BlizzCon in November 2019.
Long-awaited isometric action RPG Diablo 4 will return the series to its dark origins, while original Overwatch players will be able to play on all the same maps as Overwatch 2 players, with progression and cosmetics carrying over to the sequel.
Release dates haven’t been confirmed for the games, which are in development for consoles and PC.
