Devil May Cry set for Nintendo Switch remaster
Original game to be re-released this summer
Capcom will release the original Devil May Cry for Nintendo Switch, it has announced.
The publisher confirmed on Twitter that the 2001 character action classic will be re-released this summer for Nintendo’s platform.
This marks the first time a game in the series has been made available on a Nintendo platform.
The original Devil May Cry was released for PlayStation 2 in 2001 and directed by Hideki Kamiya, who later went on to helm Okami, Viewtiful Joe and PlatinumGames’ Bayonetta.
The game centres on the demon hunter Dante, the descendent of a devil race out to avenge the death of his mother.
Devil May Cry famously started life as a fourth Resident Evil game with faster, action-orientated gameplay before director Kamiya convinced his bosses to break off the concept into its own series.
The original game has been remastered for PC and various consoles, most recently via 2018’s Devil May Cry HD Collection for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The most recent Devil May Cry title, Devil May Cry 5, released in march to strong reviews.
