“Live-action/animated” movie coming to Netflix

Detective Pikachu’s director is creating a Beyond Good & Evil movie

A feature film adaptation of Ubisoft’s Beyond Good and Evil is in the works at Netflix, the pair have announced.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rob Letterman, who directed Detective Pikachu and Goosebumps, will lead the hybrid live-action/animated movie.

Netflix’s adaptation is in early development and a search for writers to adapt the game is underway, the publication said.

Beyond Good and Evil takes place in the far future on a remote mining planet that is under attack from alien invaders.

When it’s revealed that the planet’s military leaders could be in league with the invaders, a young photojournalist named Jade is recruited to be part of an underground resistance movement.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 resurfaced from a near-ten-year absence at E3 2017, when Ubisoft confirmed the game would now take the form of a prequel.

At E3 2018, the publisher announced a partnership with LA-based “creative collaborative platform” HITRECORD, allowing artists to collaborate on content for the game such as poster designs, radio ads and original music.

Ubisoft held a Beyond Good and Evil live stream ahead of E3 2019, but the long-in-development sequel did not appear at the show itself.
