Destiny 2: Heresy is missing some voiced dialogue due to the SAG-AFTRA strike

Bungie has confirmed that newly released Destiny 2 content is missing some voiced dialogue due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

The studio said the voice lines in question will be silent, with subtitles enabled by default.

Featuring the return of the Dreadnaught and a new activity called The Nether, Destiny 2: Heresy launched today for PC and consoles.

“With this being our final epilogue entry for the Light and Darkness Saga, our teams have been taking great care to deliver delightful narrative beats and story content for players to enjoy,” Bungie said in a recent blog.

“Due to the on-going SAG-AFTRA strike, you may notice certain voice lines being silent in-game. However, we have enabled subtitles by default for this release to ensure players do not miss any narrative content.”

Heresy activities that have missing voice acting will display a warning before they’re launched.

“Within your Gameplay settings, we offer a variety of customization options for subtitles to help with accessibility and general visibility of narrative content,” Bungie added.

“You can alter their size, color, background, show the speaker’s name, and more before the launch of Heresy to prepare for introductory sequences impacted by this change.“

Actors union SAG-AFTRA started a strike last July after it said it had failed to negotiate acceptable protections around the use of AI for its members.

It means video game companies and their performance production arms – with the exception of those who have already signed agreements with SAG-AFTRA – likely won’t be able to hire unionized actors to perform motion capture or voiceover work for their games.

Black Ops 6 developer and publisher Activision recently confirmed it had recast several characters in the game’s Zombies mode due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

Star Wars-themed gear and accessories for Destiny 2 also launched today.
