Online services for Dark Souls Remastered will return at an indeterminate time

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition PC servers won’t be brought back online

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition PC servers won’t be brought back online, it’s been announced.

The servers, which have been down for some time, won’t be resurrected due to an “aging system”, according to a tweet from the official Dark Souls account.

The servers for PC version of Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin (DX11) have been reactivated, however, and the online features for the base version of Dark Souls II for PC (DX9) will be reintroduced at a later date.

According to the official tweet, “work on the restoration of online services for the PC version of Dark Souls Remastered is still underway,” although no timeframe was given for their return.

The PvP servers for the PC versions of Dark Souls: Remastered, Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 were deactivated in January following the discovery of a severe remote code execution vulnerability, which was said to allow abusers to take control of other players’ computers.

Dark Souls 3’s PC servers were finally brought back online in late August.

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, which was released in 2012, is the PC port of the first game, which was widely criticized for poor optimization, non-adjustable resolution, and capped frame rates.

Fans had modded the game to alleviate most of these issues, and in 2018, a Remastered version of the game was released on PC, becoming the definitive version of the first game in the series.

While the online services for the Prepare to Die Edition won’t return, there are no plans to cease sales of the game, and a further tweet from the Dark Souls account says that all saved data will be unaffected by this end of service.
