Cyberpunk Edgerunners is an original Netflix anime series coming in 2022
Studio Trigger is working on the project, as is Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka
CD Projekt has announced a partnership with Japanese animation studio Trigger and Netflix to create a standalone anime series set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.
Set for release in 2022, Cyberpunk Edgerunners will be directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi (Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, Promare) and feature an original score composed by Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill).
Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red is producing the series, which it has been working on since 2018.
According to the official blurb: “Cyberpunk Edgerunners tells a 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future.
“Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner—a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.”
Cyberpunk 2077 game director and CD Projekt Red head of studio Adam Badowski said: “We’ve devoured just about all the cyberpunk fiction there is to watch, read, and play; it’s a genre that leaves so much room for creativity, and has had such a strong influence on us.
“Cyberpunk Edgerunners is our love letter to cyberpunk as a whole, and to stories told in animated form.”
A new Cyberpunk 2077 trailer was also released today, featuring footage from the game’s prologue including its first few quests.
You can pre-order Cyberpunk 2077 now from Amazon, Best Buy or GAME, among other retailers.
