Cyberpunk 2077 expansion Phantom Liberty is coming to new-gen consoles and PC in 2023
Johnny Silverhand will return alongside a new cast of characters in a “spy-thriller” expansion
CD Projekt Red has announced Cyberpunk 2077’s first expansion, which is titled Phantom Liberty.
Revealed during a Night City Wire broadcast on Tuesday (which is viewable in full above), the “spy-thriller” expansion will feature the return of Johnny Silverhand, the character played by Keanu Reeves, alongside a new cast of characters.
It’s coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Stadia only, with CD Projekt announcing that the game’s new Edgerunners update (also known as patch 1.6) will be the last major update for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Cyberpunk 2077.
Update
It appears that Phantom Liberty may be the only major expansion coming to Cyberpunk 2077.
“Get ready for Phantom Liberty — a spy-thriller expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 set in an all new district of Night City,” reads the blurb accompanying the reveal trailer, which is viewable above.
“We’re really excited about it,” Cyberpunk 2077 game director Gabriel Amatangelo said of Phantom Liberty. “It’s a new style of plot we’re having fun with.”
He also said: “1.6 is the last major update for the old-gen consoles. Going forward a hugely requested feature from the community is coming up, and that’s a complete overhaul to the cop system as well as vehicle-to-vehicle combat. It gives you a whole new feel and dimension and immersion to the city.”
Amatangelo continued: “There’s going to be some smaller updates [for PS4 and Xbox One] primarily focused on tech support to keep it all running smoothly, but all new future features and content [will only be available] on the current-gen consoles as well as PC.”
Patch 1.6 launches today and includes a tie-in with Netflix‘s Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime series, which premieres on September 13.
CD Projekt claimed in April that Cyberpunk 2077 had sold over 18 million copies since its December 2020 release.
