Rockstar is offering significant launch window discounts for the new-gen console versions of Grand Theft Auto V, with PlayStation receiving the biggest price cut.

Although Rockstar hasn’t officially communicated new-gen pricing details ahead of the game’s release on March 15, pre-orders are available from today, and the game appears to have been discounted by 75% on PS5, and 50% on Xbox Series X|S.

This appears to be due to a previously announced promotion, which sees GTA Online available for PlayStation Plus subscribers to claim for free on PlayStation 5 for the next three months.

The PlayStation 5 version of Grand Theft Auto V’s “Story Mode” is currently listed for pre-order for just £8.75 / $9.99 on the PlayStation Store.

Since GTA Online already requires a PS Plus subscription to play, it’s not clear if it’s currently possible to purchase it without one on PS5.

However, on Xbox Series X/S the Story Mode and GTA Online costs £17.49 / $19.99, while GTA Online is available separately for £8.99 / $9.99 (and requires Xbox Live Gold).

This means to buy both modes, PlayStation 5 owners will only have to spend £8.75 / $9.99, whereas Xbox Series X/S owners will have to spend double at £17.49 / $19.99.

To summarise:

  • GTA V Story Mode’s full price is £34.99 / $39.99 on both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
  • PS5 owners with PS Plus can get both Story Mode and GTA Online for £8.75 / $9.99, or just GTA Online for free.
  • Xbox Series X/S owners can get Story Mode and GTA Online for £17.49 / $19.99 and GTA Online for £8.99 / $9.99

Rockstar provided new details about the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of GTA V last week including three graphics modes for players to choose from.

They include Fidelity Mode for the highest visual quality, a Performance Mode designed to offer the most responsive gameplay experience, and a Performance RT mode billed as a hybrid of the first two modes.

“These new versions also offer across-the-board improvements including faster loading times, increased population and traffic variety, increased vegetation density, improved lighting quality across shadows, water reflections, and other elements. Plus improved anti-aliasing, motion-blur, highly detailed new explosions, fire, and much more,” Rockstar said.

“There’s also new levels of responsiveness with Haptic Feedback and dynamic resistance via the Adaptive Triggers on PlayStation 5’s DualSense wireless controller, adding new sensations to weather effects, directional damage, rough road surfaces, explosions and much more. Platform-specific features also include immersive audio using Tempest 3D positional audio on PlayStation 5 and Spatial Sound on Xbox Series X|S.”

Commenting on the next-gen versions of GTA V last year, the CEO of Rockstar parent company Take-Two said he was confident the remaster would deliver a strong experience for players.

“We’ve done great with the Mafia series, for example, and Grand Theft Auto [V] is now heading into its third generation which is incredible,” said Strauss Zelnick.

“It was a standard-bearer when it was launched, it continued to be the standard-bearer in the second generation, we’ll see how Grand Theft Auto does in the next generation. Obviously, I’m confident that Rockstar is going to deliver just a great experience, but you can’t do that if you’re just doing a simple port.”

Rockstar recently confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently in development.
