The first Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer will premiere next month, Rockstar Games has confirmed.
“Next month marks the 25th anniversary of Rockstar Games,” co-founder Sam Houser said in a statement. “Thanks to the incredible support of our players worldwide, we have had the opportunity to create games we are truly passionate about.
“Without you, none of this would be possible, and we are so grateful to all of you for sharing this journey with us.
“In 1998, Rockstar Games was founded on the idea that video games could come to be as essential to culture as any other form of entertainment, and we hope that we have created games you love in our efforts to be part of that evolution.
“We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto. We look forward to many more years of sharing these experiences with all of you.”
Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive is set to report its quarterly earnings later today.
Rockstar was forced to acknowledge GTA 6‘s existence earlier than it would have liked, when extremely early footage of the game was leaked last year.
In one of the games industry’s most high-profile data leaks, more than an hour of GTA 6 development footage was published online in September 2022, giving players their first look at the sequel to one of the best-selling games of all time.
The leaked footage included open-world gameplay from an alpha build of GTA 6, and seemingly confirmed a previous report which claimed the game will take place in Vice City and feature a female protagonist.
The leak forced Rockstar to publish a statement on its social channels saying it was “extremely disappointed” to have details on the game shared in this way, but claiming that the leak would not delay the project.
“Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto game will continue as planned and we remain as committed as ever to delivering an experience to you, our players, that truly exceeds your expectations,” part of the statement read.
“We will update everyone again soon and, of course, will properly introduce you to this next game when it is ready. We want to thank everyone for their ongoing support through this situation.”
