Classic maps could be coming to Halo Infinite, teases Joseph Staten

Halo Infinite‘s head of creative Joseph Staten has teased that classic maps could be coming to the game in the future during a new interview.

Speaking on the Kinda Funny Xcast, the veteran developer, who has been involved in the Halo franchise since Halo 2, implied that classic maps from previous titles could be part of 343’s plans for the future of the game.

When asked by co-host Parris Lilly why 343 hasn’t added classic maps to the game as a “buffer” between new content, Staten replies “That’s a good idea, Parris,” while scratching his chin.

“There are a lot of maps that are awesome. I think it would be awesome to play on those maps again, don’t you guys? That sounds like a fun thing… I’ll mark that in my notebook”.

While not explicit confirmation, the tone with which Staten discusses the topic of old maps implies that it could feature in 343’s plans for Halo Infinite in some way.

How that will materialise is not clear, and how it would fit in the game’s seasonal structure is also purely speculative, however, older maps have been included as DLC in Halo titles as far back as the Xbox 360.

Halo Infinite’s latest season of multiplayer content, Lone Wolves, began last week. Lone Wolves sees the addition of two new maps called Catalyst and Breaker, as well as new game modes.

King of the Hill and Land Grab are returning from previous Halo games, while a new mode called Last Spartan Standing is a 12-player deathmatch where each player has five lives. Players who earn kills can level up their loadout, encouraging active participation rather than hiding.

However, the launch hasn’t been without issues as players began reporting a gun jamming bug which 343 has said it is working on.
