CD Projekt says it’s ‘already working on’ Cyberpunk sequel and multiplayer
Company currently has three teams working on Cyberpunk projects
CD Projekt is working on a second Cyberpunk game in addition to Cyberpunk 2077, president Adam Kiciński has revealed.
The second Cyberpunk title will be CD Projekt’s “next big project,” the firm told Polish business publication Bankier, and it hopes to release it in 2021.
[UPDATE 02/07: Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith told VGC there are ‘tons of stories left to tell’ in the game universe.]
In addition, the company has a third 40-person Cyberpunk team in Wroclaw working on a multiplayer mode for Cyberpunk 2077, it said. The game’s developer previously suggested that Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer will be released after the main game.
President Adam Kiciński said: “We’re working on three Cyberpunk things – the main game and two more.
“These are three teams. We are also working on Gwent and we have an unannounced game at Spokko. So we have five working teams, three working on Cyberpunk.”
Spokko is a Polish mobile game developer acquired in 2018.
Vice-President Piotr Nielubowicz described the company’s new Cyberpunk game as a “AAA role-playing game.”
“Our next big project will also be in the Cyberpunk universe, and we’re already working on it and treating it as a really big and innovative project for us,” he said.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on April 16, 2020 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
There’s no next-generation version announced as yet, although the game’s original creator has said he expects Cyberpunk 2077 for PS5 and Xbox Scarlett.
Speaking about the possibility of a multiplayer mode last month, CD Projekt Red‘s Alvin Liu told VGC: “It’s very important to us and we’re still working on it, but it’s very much in research and development right now.
“We’re focusing heavily on the single-player experience, but we’re thinking about what it means to be online. We’ll talk about that after we finish the game.”
