CD Projekt confirms plans to release a complete edition of Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt has confirmed plans to release a complete edition of Cyberpunk 2077.

The company was asked about plans for a “Game of the Year edition” during an investor Q&A session on Thursday.

“In terms of a new edition, collector’s edition, we don’t know the name yet, but when the time comes, we’ll let you know,” claimed CD Projekt’s chief commercial officer Michał Nowakowski.

Cyberpunk 2077 was released in December 2020, and last month CD Projekt launched the game’s only expansion, Phantom Liberty.

In terms of a special edition, Nowakowski said players shouldn’t necessarily expect CD Projekt to follow a similar path to the one it took with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The Witcher 3 was released in May 2015. A Game of the Year edition, which included the base game, its two expansions and other DLC, followed in August 2016.

“Well, with Witcher 3, it took some time to do it, but we don’t want to compare it because perhaps we will adopt a new approach, a different approach than with The Witcher,” Nowakowski said.

“You don’t have to compare it to the Witcher until we release a full edition. We do have some intentions, but it’s not yet time to discuss them.”

His comments were made around the same time as reports emerged on social media claiming that ‘Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition’ had been rated by European classification board PEGI.

An online listing for the Ultimate Edition, which no longer appears to be public on PEGI’s website, reportedly carried what would appear to be a placeholder release date of December 31, 2023.

During Thursday’s investor presentation, CD Projekt CEO Adam Kiciński said Cyberpunk 2077 has now cleared 25 million sales, meaning it’s selling “far faster” than The Witcher 3 did following its release. The latter has sold over 50 million copies, according to CD Projekt.

The company also claimed on Thursday that Phantom Liberty sales topped three million during the expansion’s first week of availability.

Cyberpunk 2077 game director Gabe Amatangelo recently said the studio wasn’t planning any more major updates for the title as it was switching its attention to other projects, including the game’s sequel.

The next Cyberpunk game, Project Orion, is now entering development at CD Projekt’s North America studios.

CD Projekt said on Thursday that a live-action project based on Cyberpunk 2077 is currently in the early stages of development. It also seemingly hinted at plans to further collaborate with Cyberpunk Edgerunners animation studio Trigger.
