Capcom is warning Resident Evil 4 players about ‘a rare but critical progress bug’
It plans to address the issue in an upcoming patch
Capcom has warned Resident Evil 4 players about a newly uncovered progression blocking bug.
The company said the “rare but critical progress bug” can occur when obtaining a specific key item after a cutscene at the beginning of Chapter 12.
“Please refrain from attacking with the knife until the notification for obtaining this item is displayed in the upper right of the screen,” it said.
“After obtaining this key item, it will appear in the Key Items & Treasures menu in the attaché case.
“If it has not appeared, please reload saved data from before the start of Chapter 12.”
Failure to obtain the item will leave players unable to progress in the game.

Capcom said the bug is present in all versions of the game and that it plans to address it in a future update.
“After the update has been applied, players will be able to continue the game even with the saved data where the error previously occurred.”
Capcom is also working on a fix for an issue which can cause flickering lights to appear in the PS5 version of the game.
Resident Evil 4 will receive a free update on April 7 which adds The Mercenaries, a mode which tasks players with killing as many enemies as possible within a time limit.
The remake could also introduce the original game’s Separate Ways content as future DLC, datamines have suggested.
