Call of Duty Warzone’s Black Ops treasure hunt continued this weekend
A full reveal is expected at the end of the month
Call of Duty Warzone’s alternate reality game continued this weekend, as players uncovered new clues which will eventually lead to the announcement of the next premium series instalment.
Following the first stage of the Black Ops Cold War ARG, which led to the discovery of a website, videos began playing within the web portal on Friday showing various footage related to the space race and Vietnam war.
Within the videos, players spotted coordinates leading to a locked door in Warzone’s Farmhouse area, behind which they uncovered a room containing more clues and Cold War-era scenery.
On Friday the teaser website was updated again, this time leading players to one of the mysterious Warzone bunkers which have been present – and mostly locked – since launch.
The videos also provided a code, which unlocked the bunker and revealed a room containing yet more clues and Cold War-era scenery, including what appears to be a statue of Lenin.
The Warzone ARG is expected to continue this week and eventually conclude with the announcement of the next Call of Duty game, Black Ops Cold War, towards the end of the month.
It’s also understood that a planned Warzone map update will now take place later in the year. VGC previously reported that the Black Ops’s reveal would coincide with a Verdansk revamp to bring it more aesthetically in line with the game’s Cold War setting.
Warzone will continue to run on Modern Warfare’s engine, with development led by long time battle royale collaborator Raven Software, which also created Black Ops 4’s Blackout mode.
VGC understands that Activision will integrate Black Ops content into Warzone, thus combining the franchise’s sub-brands for the first time outside of Call of Duty Mobile.
Last week Activision confirmed that Treyarch and Raven Software are developing Call of Duty 2020, which is scheduled to launch later this year.
