Call of Duty: Warzone tops 60 million players
Modern Warfare sales also tracking at a record high for the series
Call of Duty: Warzone has attracted over 60 million players since releasing on March 10, Activision Blizzard announced on Tuesday.
The milestone player count was revealed as part of the publisher’s first quarter earnings results.
It continues a strong start for the game, which attracted six million players in 24 hours, 15 million players in three days, 30 million players in 10 days, and 50 million players in one month.
Activision also said that sales of 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare are tracking at a record high.
“Life-to-date, Modern Warfare has sold through more units and has more players than any prior Call of Duty title at this point after its release.
“In the first quarter, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare unit sell-through was the highest for the franchise outside of a launch quarter.
“Following substantial year-over-year growth versus the prior title in January and February, unit sell-through accelerated in March, driven by upgrades from Warzone as well as rising demand amidst shelter-at-home conditions.”
Activision also said on Tuesday that the next premium Call of Duty game, which is expected to be a Black Ops title from Treyarch, “already looks great and remains on track for release later this year”.
The latest Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone playlist update released on Tuesday. It disabled helicopters in Battle Royale, among other features.
While it continues to work on fixes for several issues, including an XP bug which results in Battle Passes appearing inactive, as well as connectivity and voice chat problems, Infinity Ward has activated double XP in Modern Warfare and Warzone until Friday.
Raven Software’s creative director Amos Hodge recently provided an update on the much-requested Call of Duty Warzone Duos mode, while Infinity Ward studio narrative director Taylor Kurosaki said Call of Duty Warzone will “connect” the franchise’s various sub-brands such as Modern Warfare and Black Ops in the future.
