Call of Duty Vanguard revealed: New Warzone map, anti-cheat and more confirmed

Activision has officially revealed Call of Duty: Vanguard and confirmed plans for a new Warzone map and anti-cheat system.

With development led by Sledgehammer Games, Vanguard will be comprised of a WWII campaign, 20 multiplayer maps and a Zombies mode (developed by Treyarch), with a release date of November 5 on consoles and PC. There are also plans for a pre-release multiplayer beta.

The campaign will cover the origins of Special Forces, forming Task Force One in a story spanning the Eastern and Western fronts of Europe, the Pacific, and North Africa.

As exclusively revealed by VGC earlier this year, the game will be powered by an updated version of the Modern Warfare engine, and Raven Software plans to launch a new WWII-themed Warzone map to coincide with Vanguard’s release.

Activision also confirmed plans to release “a new PC anti-cheat system” for Warzone alongside its new Vanguard map.

Warzone will continue to honour players’ past gameplay experiences as universal progression is set to continue across Modern WarfareBlack Ops Cold War, and Vanguard. All content earned via a Battle Pass or purchased via a Store Bundle will carry forward.

Vanguard’s multiplayer offering will include 20 maps available at launch including 16 “built for core gameplay”.

New features include an advanced Gunsmith and Caliber system, and the next generation of the 2v2 Gunfight mode first introduced in Modern Warfare; Champion Hill. This is the mode hinted at earlier today as a ‘Gunfight Battle Royale’.

“Imagine quick-action, close-quarters, small-squad combat in which eight teams compete in a series of head-to-head matchups where the last team standing wins,” Activision said.

“Call of Duty: Vanguard is primed to deliver a stunning range of gameplay experiences for the entire Call of Duty community. Vanguard’s breadth of content is a hallmark of the title, with more multiplayer maps on day one than ever before and the first Zombies crossover in Call of Duty history,” said Johanna Faries, General Manager, Call of Duty, Activision.

“Warzone fans will also experience a host of exciting new things to come as part of the new launch. We can’t wait to share more soon.”

Call of Duty Vanguard was first revealed via an in-game event in Warzone, which saw players working together to destroy an enemy train, before a fleet of bombers pummeled the map.

According to Modern Warzone, a Call of Duty Vanguard PlayStation beta test is also scheduled for September 10-12, ahead of a beta on all platforms from September 16-20.
