Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2v2 multiplayer mode revealed
Gunfight mode shown ahead of full online reveal in August
Activision has revealed a new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer mode called Gunfight, ahead of a full online reveal set to take place on Thursday, August 1.
As shown in the video above and the screens below, Gunfight features 2v2 action across a series of small, confined maps that are custom-built for the mode.
Activision describes Gunfights as “multi-round cage matches” in which players have the same loadout, which switches every two rounds.
Rounds last for 40 seconds, followed by a capture the flag-based overtime period if one or more players from each team are still alive when the time expires.
Set for release in October, Modern Warfare will feature a unified narrative experience and progression across the whole game including campaign, multiplayer and Spec-Ops co-op missions.
For the first time in the series PC and console players will be able to play together online via cross-platform play, while the game will ditch the franchise’s traditional season pass “in order to deliver a greater mix of more free maps, content and community events post-launch”.
US retailer GameStop said Call of Duty: Modern Warfare topped its pre-order rankings post-E3, while NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella said this month he expects it to be the No.1 game in the US this year in terms of dollar sales.
