Activision recently confirmed that the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 release date is October 28, 2022.
Following the announcement, several Modern Warfare 2 editions, pre-order bonuses and beta details seemingly leaked via an update to Call of Duty Vanguard.
While unofficial, the datamined files suggest Activision plans to release three editions of the game, each of which grants early access to an open beta for PlayStation players when pre-ordered.
They are the Modern Warfare 2 Standard Edition, Cross-Gen Bundle and Vault Edition. The most expensive edition is also said to include the following:
- Battle Pass (1 Season) + 50 Tier Skips
- Red Team Operator Pack: Ghost, Soap, Price, Farah
- FJX Cinder Weapon Vault
- 10 hours 2XP and 10 hours 2WXP
- Ghost Legacy Pack: 12 Operator Skins & 10 Weapon Blueprints
Sony and Activision have a long-standing Call of Duty marketing deal which in recent years has seen PlayStation owners receive a range of exclusive content including in-game bundles, exclusive game modes and early access to public tests.
UPDATE: Activision has officially detailed Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 editions. It appears that the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game may not be available for less than $69.99/£69.99. Currently the cheapest confirmed option for last-gen players is the cross-gen bundle.
ORIGINAL STORY CONTINUES: It was announced in January that Microsoft intends to purchase Activision Blizzard in a $68.7 billion deal that would give the Xbox maker exclusive ownership of franchises including Call of Duty, Warcraft, Overwatch, Crash Bandicoot and Candy Crush.
Should it gain regulatory approval, Microsoft has said it will continue to release Activision Blizzard games, including Call of Duty titles, for PlayStation consoles following the acquisition and beyond existing contractual agreements, and that it wants to make more of the publisher’s games available to Nintendo players too.
